History
The 50's
Peters Marketing Research was founded by Mary Jane Peters in the late 1950’s. After spending a few years as an interviewer and partner
in a local interviewing firm she decided she could start her own business. Although she had little money, she had a fierce drive, integrity, a
strong work ethic and a desire to create a business legacy for future generations.
The 60's
PMR started out as a “field house,” doing interviewing only, and remained that way throughout the 1960’s. During this time the company
transitioned from predominantly door-to-door interviewing to in-store/mall intercept data collection.
The 70's
The 1970’s were an important time for the company. We opened our New Jersey Focus Group Center, currently PMcR. Joe Peters, Mary
Jane’s son, officially took over the business as Owner & President and continues in this role today! It was becoming apparent that handling, presentation and management of data would be of critical importance to the future of marketing research so we hired our first fulltime
programmer and introduced coding and tabulation services.
The 80's
In the early 1980’s central location taste tests, package tests, concept studies and home-use tests were a major portion of our business.
In 1984 we opened our St. Louis Focus Group Center. With the opening of the St. Louis Group Center we were even more committed to the development of Qualitative and Quantitative interviewing and respondent screening systems.
The 90's
In the 1990’s we accelerated the development of our database systems and enhanced technology employment across a wide variety of
interviewing, data and respondent management systems. The St. Louis Focus Group Center expanded and became St. Louis’ premier
facility.
The New Millennium
The turn of the century has seen continued development and total integration of our project management systems with every recruiting
detail of a project available with the click of a button. Our online interviewing and data gathering is used in a wide variety of projects and
methods. In 2005 we once again expanded and updated the St. Louis Group Center to 3 focus group suites. We continue to be one of the
BEST facilities in the world.
We’ve come a long way from the early days of door-to-door interviewing but Mary Jane’s original
mission remains our guiding mantra, “every project has to be implemented perfectly.” Our facilities, recruiting and people are the best in the
industry. We remain a family owned & operated company with the third generation filling fulltime management roles. Along with our key
fulltime “non-family” team members we strive to share the drive, integrity, and work ethic of our founder, Mary Jane.
